The ISA Edmonton Section is proud to share that one of our very own Board Members has been featured by CTV News Edmonton for his team's work on developing a new PPE (personal protective equipment) respirator aimed to protect frontline health workers from COVID-19.
Rafiq Ahmad, Assistant Professor at the U of A's Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing, Design & Automation (LIMDA, Mechanical), has been generously volunteering his time with the ISA Edmonton Section as our U of A Student Chapter Advisor for over 3 years.
Alongside other engineers at U of A, Rafiq, has been busy over the past couple of months manufacturing a new PPE respirator, nearly ready for field testing, as well as other technologies like a robotics system to disinfect surfaces (still in the development phase).
"Innovative minds and willing hands - like yours - are key to fighting this pandemic. Congratulations on a job well done." - Bob Bahniuk, ISA Edmonton Section Board Member
"Fantastic work Rafiq, thank you on behalf of the entire ISA Edmonton Section and the automation industry for inspiring us in times like these." - Arthur Kloc, ISA Edmonton Section President

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as ISA Edmonton Section President for the 2025-2026 season. ISA has been a huge part of my career. In fact, every job I've had has come from a connection I've made through this organization!
